• There are at least 142,651 children in NC with asthma. These children need protective air regulations so they can breathe easier.
• NC is ranked in the top 10 states with the highest emissions of toxic air pollution from power plants. In fact, NC sources emitted 34 million pounds of toxics in air emissions in 2010, and 1.5 million pounds of carcinogens.
• The NC Air Toxics Rule regulates the most hazardous pollutants including PCBs, dioxins, asbestos, arsenic, mercury, formaldehyde and dozens of known carcinogens.
• The state program covers 21 toxins that are not covered by the federal program. Under H.952 communities will not be protected from these toxins, many of them carcinogens.
